More than 40 women from more than three churches gathered at Pallottine Renewal Center for the 2014 Lutheran Women’s Retreat August 22-24. It was the second year this Lutheran women’s group brought their program to Pallottine.
“Pallottine has the facilities that fit our agenda,” said Anna Lind, connections coordinator at Zion Lutheran Church of Harvester in St. Charles.
And that agenda was full with prayer and worship, group and individual study plus recreational activities like yoga, walks, volleyball, swimming, and a fireside wine and cheese party. Retreatants commented that they enjoyed having the option for both indoor and outdoor opportunities. “It’s like having a fun time away with family,” one woman noted.
The theme for this weekend was “Beautiful Feet,” focusing on how our God-given gifts make us the perfect fit for serving others and how we find ways to share God’s love with each other. “It’s been really fun getting to know [the women] and getting perspectives from other women on life,” said another participant.
Many retreatants spoke of the spirit of hospitality they experienced at Pallottine with the friendly and accommodating staff. “We enjoyed the hospitality as Pallottine’s team worked quickly to get the place set for us. The office staff has always been pleasant and easy to work with,” said Anna.
Pallottine’s convenient location was also a draw–a St. Louis area zip code with a far-away feeling. As one retreatant put it, “It’s close but I feel like I’ve gone somewhere.”
Sometimes the signs of a perfect match reveal themselves in unexpected ways. The Lutheran Women’s Retreat motto of “Reconnect, Relax and Renew” mirrors Pallottine’s motto of “Refresh, Reflect and Renew.” A vision shared, a mission accomplished.
