In the coming weeks, Pallottine Renewal Center would like to present you with the teachings from the Waiting With Mary Advent Prayer Series, a series we offered throughout Advent. Please enjoy the posts.
One of the important characteristics of St. Vincent Pallotti’s spirituality is his special devotion to Mary. He wrote often of Mary and called her my many names – Mother of Mercy and Refuge of Sinners, Mary our Teacher, Mary our Advocate, Mary our Model of Prayer, Mary, Immaculate Mother, Mary Spouse of the Spirit, Mary Mother of Divine Love, Mary Queen of Apostles, and many more. He even had a mystical experience of Spiritual Espousal in 1832, the deep impression of which is clear in the concluding words of his account: “Mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy ,mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, Paradise is full of Mary’s mercy. I will sing the mercies of God for all eternity, I will sing the mercies of Mary for all eternity. My God and my all.”
Catholic Tradition and teaching certainly holds Mary in a place of high regard and significance. Yet, how often do we seek to really know who Mary was? At the PRC this Advent we spent four evenings journeying with Mary through the images offered by St. Vincent. By coming to get to know Mary in her many dimensions, we can also prepare to welcome Christ more fully into our hearts and our lives this Advent season. Yet, engaging these aspects of Mary hold spiritual treasures that we can reap throughout the year.
