Springtime has arrived, and the dark earth has warmed and has begun churning seedlings and perennial flowers that have been dormant all winter. For those who love to garden, they take pleasure in the weeding and preparing of the soil, knowing that a beautiful garden is most lush when the dirt has been sufficiently tilled to receive its blooms. Digging hands into the earth can be tiresome, but so very rewarding when the end result is so lovely.
Much like the gardener who lovingly and tirelessly works his plot, so too are we disciples of Jesus dedicated to working in the “vineyard of the Lord”. As His followers, we are called to promote His glory and cultivate souls for God. We are helping establish strong roots of faith in ourselves and in each other with the hope that the end result is paradise in heaven.
How best do we grow this garden of believers for God? Just as flowers flourish with water and sunlight, so is our faith strongest when we can encourage and feed each other spiritually. We are best nurtured when we love each other as Jesus himself taught us to. Our souls bloom when we support each other as one community of faith: followers walking the same path towards eternal life.
And just as the flowers always tilt themselves to the sunlight, we believers tilt our hearts and our lives towards Heaven. We yearn to sit someday in God’s garden, which is abundant in beauty, peace and love everlasting. Let us work now in the “Vineyard of the Lord” so that someday we will be reunited in God’s lovely and eternal paradise.
