We all have days when we feel lost, when sadness weighs heavy and the answers we seek are simply out of our grasp. Teenagers who are killed in car crashes, the loss of a job after years of dedication, a grim diagnosis for a friend or family member: how does any of it make sense? These dark days may even make us question the faithfulness of God. Where is He in the midst of our heartache?
These are the moments that test our faithfulness, not His. He has not promised that there would be no suffering or loss, but He has assured us that He will be there to carry us through our sorrow. When the bridges seem to give way, and we are in a state of free fall God himself will catch us in His loving arms. No tears do we shed that He doesn’t cry with us, no sadness do we carry that He is not willing to carry for us.
When life seems unbearable and we cannot find our footing, the only way to get through these moments is to lean hard into faith, to lean heavy onto God’s strong shoulders. He has promised us that He will always, always be there. We may never make sense of tragedy, and we will all face loss and heartbreak at some point in our lives. But there is peace and solace in the knowledge that our loving God will be there to help bear our burdens. His solemn vow is that we are never, ever alone.
So on days when sadness is overwhelming and troubles too hard to bear, seek the God who has promised to give you rest. Lean hard towards your faith, and lean heavy on His shoulders.
