Followers of Christ are a little like explorers of old: seeking answers and wondering what lies just around the next horizon. When Columbus loaded up his men and stocked his ship, he could have had no idea of the dangers they would encounter, or even if they would ever return. He simply trusted that there were treasures to be discovered if he had the courage to take to the sea. As he and his men pushed away from the shore, they forged ahead with hope and trust in their hearts.
In many ways, we are like the voyagers who sail through unchartered waters and stare out at unknown horizons. How can we know for certain what the future has in store? Is it possible to trust that we will never hit rough waters, and that what lies off in the distance will make us happy? Well none of us can know these answers with certainty, life offers us no guarantees. But what we can be assured of is that God himself is at the helm, gently and knowingly guiding us through both the storms and the smooth waters.
For those who believe and trust in the Lord, He has promised to give us hope when troubles loom heavy. He has vowed to be a safe haven of love and security when we cannot find our way. And most importantly, He has offered His solemn commitment that we are never, ever alone. Because of these assurances, we can find the courage to live out our very best life, find our deepest joys. We need not fear what is on the next horizon, for our Creator travels with us, and is lovingly charting our course according to His most divine will.
So hope in your future, take chances to find joy, lose sight of the shore, knowing God is forever and always helping you find your way.
